Romsey » Events http://romsey.co.uk Romsey visitors guide, local directory & hotels service Sat, 05 Feb 2011 14:27:03 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=4.2.28 The Romsey Show http://romsey.co.uk/events/the-romsey-show/ http://romsey.co.uk/events/the-romsey-show/#comments Thu, 03 Feb 2011 01:42:43 +0000 http://romsey.co.uk/?p=63 Romsey is a simply amazing town on the south of England. There is a lot that the town has to offer, but in our opinion two events in the town’s social calendar stand out: the Mayor’s Picnic and the Romsey Show. The Mayor’s Picnic is very much a family event in Romsey that gathers the townsfolk, but is, of course, open to people from outside. The most fun and possible the most uncommon part of the Mayor’s Picnic is the Duck Race. As you possibly know, the river Test is a great part of Romsey’s life, and it?s included in the Picnic as toy ducks are released into the river in a “race” of sorts. Naturally the ducks themselves won’t win anything, but the person who manages to choose the winning duck does win a prize. But, of course, watching the ducks is the most fun part of it.

The Romsey Show is a completely different kind of event, and one that’s very interesting for everyone visiting that part of the country. In fact, many people travel there just for the show, which shows you how interesting it is. It is described as an agricultural show, but it’s a lot more than that. We think of an agricultural show as a display of livestock and possibly a few stands showcasing produce and its derivates, but this one has a lot more things, including falconry displays, hunting dog skill showcases and even very unique events such as the family dog parade and “best donkey” contests, which are sure to amuse anyone present. Naturally the fair wouldn’t be complete without the showcase of British livestock and the hundreds of stands where you can buy anything, from produce and agricultural supplies to machinery and even outdoor recreation stuff, like quad bikes and the like.

Romsey’s Events and Activities http://romsey.co.uk/events/romsey%e2%80%99s-events-and-activities/ http://romsey.co.uk/events/romsey%e2%80%99s-events-and-activities/#comments Thu, 03 Feb 2011 01:37:52 +0000 http://romsey.co.uk/?p=55 Romsey is a busy town, especially for it’s size. There is various events and activities taking place all year long. No matter what time of year you visit, you can find something to see and do in this popular Hampshire town. Through out the city, no matter what season, there are fairs, carnivals, shows and festivals to enjoy. Covering a wide range of interests, and dates, you can easily find an event in Romsey you’ll love.

For general activities, there are quite a few gatherings organized during the summer months. The Mayor’s Picnic, for example, features music, various stalls, and even a plastic duck race down the River Test. There is also the Beggars Fair, which is held outdoors, in the streets of Romsey. This fair is free and open to the public, with plenty of live music, dancing, and other forms of entertainment.

For the kids, you can experience the Romsey Carnival in the summer. This carnival spans the course of a week, in the month of July, and is a popular favorite among locals and families. In the winter time, you can also attend a carnival, when all of the christmas lights in the city are sparkling.

For more specific tastes, you can check out the Romsey Show, which is a popular agricultural show. This particular event is held at the Broadlands, where the CLA Game Fair has also been hosted, which is one of the largest agricultural fairs in the world. In addition, there is also the Romsey Arts Festival, which is held ever three years, and features the works of local, talented artists of all kinds.

Events in Romsey http://romsey.co.uk/events/events-in-romsey/ http://romsey.co.uk/events/events-in-romsey/#comments Thu, 03 Feb 2011 01:31:15 +0000 http://romsey.co.uk/?p=47 Situated in the Southern coast of England, Romsey is an amazing town, rich in history and in culture. It’s said that Romsey’s biggest asset is not its factories or its natural resources, but its people. And once you look at the history of the town you realize that this is true. The town has suffered greatly, both with natural events such as the Black Plague, which killed half of the town’s population, and with economical setbacks. The industries that the town relied on have been replaced several times, but the population hung on, worked on and found new ways to keep the town alive and prospering.

There’s no greater testament to the town’s people’s great giving spirit than the town’s many events. Often they are organized and manned by volunteer townsfolk who give it all to make every event a great success. This means that there are several events going on in the town that are definitely worth a trip.

One of the most fun events in Romsey is the Mayor’s Picnic. There is music and a great number of stalls that you can visit, but the most fun part of the day is the “Duck Race”, when several plastic ducks are set afloat on the river Test and people bet on which will be the winning duck. But Romsey is also famous for its cultural festivals and events. The Beggars Fair, for example, is held on the streets and pubs of Romsey and it focuses primarily on music and dance, although there is some room for other performing arts. Those looking for more conventional art will enjoy the Romsey Arts Festival, that features exhibitions in several venues, as well as street performances and musical performances by renowned stars as well as by the local bands.
